How to Write a Puppy Listing That Buyers Trust

Buyers scan dozens of listings before contacting anyone. The listings that earn the call are not the flashiest — they are the ones that feel complete, current, and honest. Here is what serious buyers look for, and how to write your listing so the right family contacts you.

Photos do most of the work

Use recent, well-lit photos of the actual puppy — several angles, and at least one that shows scale. Skip stock photos and old litter photos entirely: experienced buyers recognize them, and they read as a warning sign. A short video of the puppy moving and interacting is worth more than any written description.

Complete every detail field

Breed, color, gender, date of birth, price, and location are the fields buyers filter by — an incomplete listing simply does not show up in their search. State the real price: "contact for price" costs you far more inquiries than it protects.

Write a description that answers the first phone call

The best descriptions answer what a buyer would ask first: How was the litter raised? What socialization has the puppy had? What health care has happened so far — vet checks, vaccinations, deworming? What comes with the puppy? Writing it down saves you the same conversation ten times, and buyers trust breeders who volunteer the details.

Honesty is the strategy

State the true availability and mark puppies sold as soon as they are gone. Never oversell temperament or make health guarantees you do not intend to put in writing. On PuppyList, listings that misrepresent a puppy are removed — and with buyers, one honest sentence ("this is the shy one of the litter") builds more trust than a paragraph of superlatives.

Keep it current

A stale listing wastes everyone’s time and hurts your credibility. Update photos as the puppies grow, keep your phone reachable, and answer messages promptly — the first breeder to respond usually gets the buyer.
