About the American Bulldog
The American Bulldog is a powerful, athletic working breed descended from old English bulldogs brought to the American South, where farmers used it for catching hogs and cattle, guarding property and general utility. Muscular yet agile, it comes in more athletic and heavier bully types and is confident, energetic and deeply loyal. Affectionate and playful with its family, it is naturally protective and needs a job to stay balanced. It suits active, experienced owners who can provide exercise, training and firm, positive leadership, and who appreciate a devoted guardian rather than a low-energy lapdog.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The American Bulldog descends from working bulldogs kept on farms in the American South after English settlers brought them over. Nearly extinct after World War II, it was revived by breeders such as John D. Johnson and Alan Scott. It is recognized by the UKC and remains a popular working and family guardian.
Temperament
Confident, energetic and affectionate, the American Bulldog is devoted to its family and gentle with children it is raised with, while being alert and protective toward strangers. It is intelligent and trainable but strong-willed, needing consistent guidance. Early socialization is important given its guarding drive.
