About the American English Coonhound
The American English Coonhound is a fast, racy scenthound bred in the American South to trail and tree raccoons and other quarry through the night, descending from English Foxhounds adapted to warmer terrain. Athletic, tireless and driven, it is renowned for its speed, endurance and loud, ringing bawl on the trail. Sociable and affectionate with people and other hounds, it is a mellow companion at home once well exercised but demands substantial activity. It suits active owners or hunters who can provide daily exercise, secure fencing and tolerance for its powerful voice.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.
