About the Andalusian Hound
The Andalusian Hound, or Podenco Andaluz, is a primitive Spanish hunting dog from Andalusia used to hunt rabbit and small game using a keen combination of sight, scent and hearing. Coming in three sizes and several coat types, it is a lean, agile and alert dog with large upright ears and boundless stamina. Lively, intelligent and affectionate with its family, it retains a strong prey drive and independent hunting character. It suits active owners who can provide plenty of exercise, secure fencing and patient training, and who appreciate a versatile, energetic primitive-type companion.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

Health considerations to discuss
General hardiness. As a primitive landrace-type it has few breed-specific inherited diseases.
Injuries from hunting. Its high drive and agility make cuts, sprains and heat exposure risks in the field.
Hip and joint soundness. As with active hounds, joints should be assessed to support its athletic lifestyle.
