About the Appenzeller Sennenhund
The Appenzeller Sennenhund is a medium-sized Swiss mountain dog from the Appenzell region, one of the four Sennenhund breeds, traditionally used to herd cattle, guard farms and pull carts. Agile, muscular and tricolored, it is a high-energy, intensely versatile working dog with a lively, self-confident character. Devoted and protective toward its family, it is watchful and reserved with strangers and needs constant activity and a job. Highly intelligent but strong-willed, it suits experienced, active owners who can provide vigorous exercise, training and purpose, rather than sedentary or first-time homes.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

Health considerations to discuss

Cryptorchidism and hemophilia. Some lines carry these hereditary issues, so responsible breeding screening matters.
