Aussiedor Puppies for Sale
About the Aussiedor
The Aussiedor crosses the Australian Shepherd with the Labrador Retriever, blending a herding dog's intelligence with a retriever's friendly, biddable nature. These medium-to-large dogs are athletic and sturdy, with coats ranging from short and dense like a Lab's to longer and feathered like an Aussie's, in colors from solid black or yellow to merle. Aussiedors are typically outgoing, loyal, and eager to please, making them excellent active-family companions and capable at obedience and dog sports. They need substantial daily exercise and thrive with a job. Their sociable temperament and trainability are big draws, balanced by real energy demands.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The Aussiedor is a modern designer cross combining two of the most popular working and companion breeds in North America. It has no formal recognition and generally appears as a first-generation hybrid. The Labrador Retriever originated as a Newfoundland water dog refined in Britain, while the Australian Shepherd is an American herding breed.
Temperament
These dogs are usually friendly, devoted, and highly trainable, uniting the Lab's easygoing sociability with the Aussie's focus and drive. They tend to be excellent with children and other pets when socialized. Their intelligence and energy mean they do best with active owners who provide structure and exercise.
Questions to ask a Aussiedor breeder
- Have the parents had hip and elbow clearances?
- Is the Aussie parent tested for MDR1 drug sensitivity?
- Is the Lab parent tested for EIC and PRA?
Health considerations to discuss
Hip and elbow dysplasia. Common in both parents; request orthopedic evaluations.
Exercise-induced collapse (EIC). Labs can carry the EIC gene; DNA testing of that parent is available.
MDR1 drug sensitivity. The Aussie side may carry the MDR1 mutation; testing guides safe medication.
