About the Austrian Black and Tan Hound
The Austrian Black and Tan Hound, also called the Brandlbracke, is a medium-sized Austrian scenthound bred to track wounded game through the mountainous terrain of the Alps. Elegant yet sturdy, it has a sleek black-and-tan coat, a fine nose and the persistence to follow a cold blood trail over difficult ground. It is a specialist working hound rather than a common pet, valued by hunters and foresters for reliability on the trail. Calm and even-tempered at home, it is affectionate with its handler but needs vigorous exercise and mental engagement. Its strong tracking drive and voice make it best suited to hunting or very active homes.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.
