About the Basset Bleu de Gascogne

The Basset Bleu de Gascogne is a short-legged French scenthound distinguished by its mottled blue-ticked coat, which gives the breed its 'blue' name. Bred to hunt rabbit and hare on foot in the Gascony region, it combines a superb nose with a melodious, far-carrying voice. Long-eared and low to the ground, it is a lighter, more active hound than its heavier basset cousins. Friendly, sociable and enthusiastic, it enjoys human company and the companionship of other dogs, reflecting its pack heritage. It is a genuine working hound, however, so owners should expect scent-driven focus, a strong voice and a real need for outdoor exercise and sniffing.

Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.
