About the Basset Fauve de Bretagne

The Basset Fauve de Bretagne is a small, rugged French scenthound from Brittany, wearing a harsh, wiry fawn coat that protects it in dense cover. Bred to hunt rabbit, hare and other game through thick Breton undergrowth, it is compact, courageous and full of drive despite its short legs. It is one of the hardier, more terrier-like bassets, combining a keen nose with real determination. Cheerful, affectionate and lively, it makes an engaging companion that bonds well with its family and enjoys the company of other dogs. Owners should be ready for a busy, independent hound with a strong hunting instinct, a wiry coat to maintain and plenty of energy.

Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.
