About the Belgian Laekenois
The Belgian Laekenois is the rarest of the four Belgian shepherd varieties, distinguished by its rough, tousled fawn coat. Developed around Laeken in Belgium, it historically guarded flocks and linen drying in fields, and served as a wartime messenger dog. It shares the intelligence, drive and devotion of its Belgian shepherd cousins in a distinctive wiry-coated package. Alert, energetic and strongly bonded to its people, it is protective of home and family and naturally wary of strangers. A demanding, highly trainable working breed, it needs an experienced owner who can provide firm guidance, thorough socialization and abundant physical and mental activity to keep it balanced and content.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.
