About the Berger Picard
The Berger Picard is a rustic French herding breed from the Picardy region, known for its tousled, weatherproof coat, upright ears and lively, expressive face. An ancient farm and droving dog, it herded sheep and cattle across northern France and nearly disappeared after the devastation of the World Wars. It is a medium-sized, athletic dog with a shaggy, low-maintenance coat and a characterful, slightly mischievous personality. Loyal, sensitive and observant, it bonds closely with its family, can be reserved with strangers and thrives on companionship and purpose. Energetic and intelligent with an independent streak, the Picard suits active owners who enjoy training and outdoor activity.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.
