About the Bracco Italiano
The Bracco Italiano is an ancient Italian pointing breed combining houndlike substance with athletic elegance. Distinguished by its long, pendulous ears, loose skin, sculpted head, and a short coat in white with orange or chestnut markings, it moves with a distinctive far-reaching trot. Bred to search, point, and retrieve game, it is a methodical, thoughtful gundog with a superb nose and strong desire to work with its handler. At home it is gentle, affectionate, and notably good with children, thriving on close family life. Sensitive and people-oriented, it responds to kind, patient training and needs generous daily exercise to satisfy its sporting energy.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The Bracco Italiano is one of the oldest pointing breeds, with roots in Italy dating back centuries and depictions in Renaissance art. Two regional types, the heavier Piedmontese and the lighter Lombard, were later unified into a single standard. Long favored by Italian hunters, the breed was refined in the 20th century and spread internationally. It is recognized by the FCI and The Kennel Club and received AKC full recognition in the Sporting Group in 2022.
Temperament
Gentle, affectionate, and sociable, the Bracco Italiano is a mellow, people-loving dog that bonds warmly with its family and is excellent with children. It is intelligent and eager to please but sensitive, responding poorly to harsh handling and best to patient, positive methods. In the field it is a diligent, deliberate worker. It generally gets along with other dogs and prefers to be included in family activities.
