About the Braque Francais Pyrenean
The Braque Francais Pyrenean is the smaller, lighter, and more popular of the two French Braque types, an energetic pointing breed from the Pyrenees region. Athletic and rangy with a short chestnut-and-white coat, it is a fast, wide-ranging gundog with an excellent nose, natural pointing ability, and keen enthusiasm for the hunt. Renowned for its gentle, friendly disposition, it is affectionate and sociable at home, good with children and other dogs, and strongly attached to its people. Highly trainable and eager to please, it makes both a capable hunting partner and a warm companion, but it needs ample daily exercise to satisfy its considerable sporting energy.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The Braque Francais comes in two varieties named for their regions, the larger Gascogne type and the smaller Pyrenean type. The Pyrenean developed in southwestern France as a lighter, faster hunting dog and became the more widespread of the two. Both descend from old French pointing stock that influenced many continental pointing breeds. The Pyrenean type is recognized by the FCI and the UKC and has a small following in North America.
