About the Brazilian Terrier
The Brazilian Terrier, or Terrier Brasileiro, is a lively, agile small terrier and one of the few breeds native to Brazil. Compact and athletic with a smooth tricolor coat, semi-erect ears, and a keen expression, it was bred to control vermin and small game on farms and to serve as an alert companion. True to its terrier roots, it is energetic, curious, and fearless, with a strong prey drive and a talent for digging and chasing. Bright and trainable but independent, it bonds closely with its family, makes a vigilant watchdog, and thrives on activity. It suits active households that can provide exercise, mental stimulation, and consistent guidance.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The Brazilian Terrier developed from small European terriers, notably the Jack Russell and Fox Terrier types, brought to Brazil by returning students and immigrants in the 19th century. Crossed with local dogs and adapted to the climate, it became a popular farm and companion terrier across Brazil. It was recognized by the FCI in 1995 as a Brazilian breed. It remains uncommon outside South America.
Temperament
Energetic, alert, and confident, the Brazilian Terrier is a spirited dog with typical terrier boldness and curiosity. It bonds strongly with its family, is playful and affectionate at home, and makes a keen watchdog. Intelligent but independent, it needs consistent, engaging training. It has a high prey drive and can be scrappy with unfamiliar dogs or small pets, so early socialization is important.
