About the Cao Fila de Sao Miguel
The Cao Fila de Sao Miguel, or Azores Cattle Dog, is a powerful herding and guarding breed from the island of Sao Miguel in Portugal's Azores. Traditionally used to move and control semi-wild cattle, it is robust, agile, and fearless, with a distinctive brindle coat and cropped ears in its homeland. Strong-willed and territorial, it forms deep bonds with its family and is naturally suspicious of strangers. This is a serious working dog that demands an experienced, confident owner, firm training, and thorough socialization. With proper leadership it is a loyal, courageous guardian, but it is not suited to novice handlers or inactive homes.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.
