About the Continental Bulldog

The Continental Bulldog is a modern Swiss breed developed to create a healthier, more athletic bulldog with an improved muzzle and freer breathing. Derived from crossing English Bulldogs with Olde English Bulldogges, it is medium-sized, muscular, and agile, retaining a bulldog's affectionate character while enjoying greater stamina and mobility. It has a short, smooth coat in various colors and a somewhat longer muzzle that supports better airflow. Friendly, confident, and even-tempered, it is a devoted family companion that is good with children and generally sociable, thriving with owners seeking a sturdy, good-natured bulldog with fewer breathing concerns.

Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History

The Continental Bulldog was developed in Switzerland in the early 2000s by breeder Imelda Angehrn, who crossed English Bulldogs with Olde English Bulldogges to breed a fitter, healthier bulldog. The aim was to reduce brachycephalic health problems while keeping the bulldog temperament. It gained recognition from the Swiss Kennel Club and provisional FCI acceptance.

Temperament

Continental Bulldogs are friendly, confident, and even-tempered, combining bulldog affection with greater energy and agility. They are devoted to their families, good with children, and generally sociable with people and other dogs. Alert and self-assured, they make pleasant, adaptable companions.
