About the English Foxhound
The English Foxhound is a classic pack scenthound bred over centuries to hunt fox across the English countryside with tireless stamina and a musical voice. Athletic and well-balanced, it has a strong, straight-legged build, a short, dense coat typically in tricolor or tan-and-white, and the deep chest and sturdy bone required for long days in the field. Bred to work cooperatively in large packs, it is sociable, even-tempered, and gets along well with other dogs and people, though it retains a powerful drive to follow scent. Friendly and tolerant, the English Foxhound can be an affectionate companion but needs substantial daily exercise, secure fencing, and ideally the company of other dogs to thrive.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The English Foxhound was developed in England from the 16th century onward, refined by fox-hunting gentry who kept careful stud records to produce packs with stamina, nose, and pack sense. Its ancestry includes older hounds crossed for speed and endurance, and it influenced the development of the American Foxhound. Recognized by The Kennel Club and the AKC, it remains chiefly a working pack hound rather than a household pet.
Temperament
English Foxhounds are gentle, sociable, and tolerant, bred to live and work harmoniously in large packs. They are friendly with people and other dogs but highly driven by scent, making recall and off-leash control challenging. Even-tempered and rarely aggressive, they need companionship and ample exercise to remain content.
