About the Francais Blanc et Orange
The Francais Blanc et Orange is the rarest of the three modern Francais scenthounds, a large, elegant French pack hound distinguished by a white coat marked only with lemon-to-orange patches. Bred chiefly to hunt hare and roe deer in packs across the French countryside, it combines a fine nose, great endurance and a musical baying voice with a notably gentle, affable disposition. It exists almost entirely as a working hunting dog kept in kennels and is seldom seen as a pet outside France. Owners must provide daily hard exercise, secure containment for its roaming instinct, and ideally a genuine hunting role, as this hound is bred for the field rather than the fireside.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
This hound descends from old orange-and-white French scenthound populations, including Billy and Saintongeois influences, consolidated in the 20th century into a recognized breed. It is the least numerous of the Francais trio and, unlike its black-and-white cousin, carries little or no English Foxhound blood. The FCI recognizes it among the medium-to-large French scenthounds.
Temperament
The breed is calm, friendly and sociable, with the harmonious pack temperament typical of French hounds. It is affectionate toward its handlers and highly tolerant of other dogs, but driven by a strong hunting instinct that dominates its focus outdoors. Independent and nose-led, it is not a naturally obedient companion and needs experienced handling.

Health considerations to discuss
Ear infections. Heavy drop ears require routine cleaning to prevent moisture-related infections.
Limited gene pool. Its rarity means careful breeding is needed to maintain genetic diversity and health.
