About the Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolore
The Grand Anglo-Français Tricolore is the best known of the three Grand Anglo-Français scenthounds, a large, powerful French pack hound wearing the classic white, black and tan tricolor coat. Created by crossing English Foxhounds with native French hounds, principally the Poitevin, it was bred to hunt large game such as deer and boar with speed, stamina and a superb nose. It works cooperatively in packs, driving quarry over long distances while giving a deep, musical voice. Gentle and sociable off the hunt, it is nonetheless a dedicated working dog rather than a companion, requiring vast exercise, secure containment for its powerful prey drive and, ideally, an active hunting role to thrive.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The Grand Anglo-Français Tricolore was developed in France by crossing English Foxhounds with French hounds, especially the Poitevin, to combine English drive with French scenting for big-game hunting. It was standardized as the tricolor member of the Grand Anglo-Français trio and is the most numerous of the three. The FCI recognizes it as a large French scenthound used in organized packs.
Temperament
This breed is gentle, even-tempered and highly sociable, bred to work in harmony within large hunting packs. It is friendly and affectionate with handlers and exceptionally tolerant of other dogs, yet its dominant hunting instinct makes it independent and easily led by scent. It needs experienced owners who can provide structure, exercise and a genuine outlet for its drive.
