About the Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen
The Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen is a long, low, rough-coated French scenthound bred in the Vendée region to hunt hare and other game over rugged, thorny terrain. The largest of the four Vendéen griffon hounds in the basset form, it has a shaggy, weather-resistant coat, expressive dark eyes framed by a beard and eyebrows, and a proud, animated carriage. Energetic, cheerful and stubbornly independent, it combines a passionate nose and stamina in the field with an affectionate, outgoing personality at home. Sociable with people and other dogs, it nonetheless follows its nose relentlessly and can be a determined escape artist. It needs plenty of exercise, secure fencing and patient training.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.
