About the Korean Jindo Dog
The Korean Jindo is a medium spitz-type hunting dog native to Jindo Island off South Korea, celebrated for its intense loyalty, boldness, and homing instinct. Compact and muscular with a foxy wedge head, erect ears, and a curled tail, it wears a harsh double coat in white, fawn, red, black-and-tan, brindle, or gray. Bred to hunt independently and return game to its master, the Jindo is intelligent, clean, and famously devoted to a single family, often aloof with outsiders. Its strong prey drive and independence demand experienced handling and secure fencing. A designated National Treasure of South Korea, it is recognized by the FCI and the AKC Foundation Stock Service.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The Jindo developed in relative isolation on Jindo Island, where it hunted deer, boar, and small game, sometimes cooperatively driving quarry back to hunters. Its exact origins are ancient and debated, but centuries of island breeding produced a remarkably consistent, self-reliant type. South Korea designated the Jindo National Treasure No. 53 in 1962, and export of pure specimens is legally restricted.
Temperament
Jindos are fiercely loyal and form an intense bond, often with one primary person, while remaining reserved or indifferent toward strangers. They are highly intelligent and clean but independent and strong-willed, with a marked prey drive toward smaller animals. Courageous and sometimes dominant with other dogs, they need firm, respectful leadership and thorough socialization. Devotion and dignity define the breed.
