About the Kromfohrlander
The Kromfohrlander is a cheerful small-to-medium companion breed from Germany, one of the few developed purely for friendship rather than work. It comes in two coat types, a wire-haired variety with beard and eyebrows and a smooth-haired variety, both in white with tan or brown markings. Affectionate, playful, and devoted to its household, the Kromfohrlander is a lively but manageable dog that dislikes being left alone and bonds closely with its people. Intelligent and willing, it is reserved with strangers yet rarely aggressive, and it adapts well to family life and apartments. Recognized by the FCI and listed with the AKC Foundation Stock Service, it remains an uncommon but delightful companion.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The Kromfohrlander originated in the Siegerland region of Germany after World War II, when breeder Ilse Schleifenbaum developed the breed from a stray terrier-type dog thought to carry Griffon and Fox Terrier ancestry, crossed with a Wire Fox Terrier. Named for the local Krom Fohr countryside, it was recognized by the FCI in 1955 as a distinct companion breed. It remains relatively rare worldwide.
Temperament
Kromfohrlanders are friendly, sensitive, and strongly attached to their families, thriving on companionship and quick to show affection. They are lively and playful yet less high-strung than many terriers, making them adaptable household dogs. Naturally reserved with strangers, they warm up with proper introductions and are seldom aggressive. Prone to separation distress, they do best when included in daily life.
