About the Large Munsterlander
The Large Munsterlander is a versatile German pointing breed developed to find, point, and retrieve game on land and in water. Elegant yet powerful, it wears a dense black-and-white coat with feathering and a solid black head, and it works with a keen nose, stamina, and biddable enthusiasm. A true all-purpose gundog, it excels at pointing upland birds, tracking, and retrieving from water. Friendly, affectionate, and intelligent, the Large Munsterlander bonds strongly with family and is eager to please, making it both a capable hunter and a devoted companion. It needs ample exercise and mental work. Recognized by the UKC and listed with the AKC Foundation Stock Service.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The Large Munsterlander shares ancestry with the German Longhaired Pointer, from which it was separated when the German Longhaired Pointer club excluded black-and-white dogs from its registry in the early 20th century. Enthusiasts in the Munster region of Germany preserved these black-and-white pointers, and a breed club formed in 1919. It spread as a prized versatile hunting dog and is now maintained by dedicated gundog registries.
Temperament
Large Munsterlanders are friendly, intelligent, and highly trainable, combining a strong hunting drive with an affectionate, people-oriented nature. They form close bonds with their families and are generally good with children and other dogs. Energetic and eager to work, they need substantial exercise and mental engagement to prevent boredom. Their biddable temperament makes them responsive partners for active owners and hunters.
