About the Norfolk Terrier
The Norfolk Terrier is one of the smallest working terriers, a sturdy, low-set little dog distinguished from its close cousin the Norwich by its neat, drop (folded) ears. Bred in East Anglia to bolt vermin and run with fox packs, it packs enormous courage and drive into a compact, weatherproof frame. Norfolks are cheerful, sociable and less scrappy than many terriers, generally getting along well with other dogs and people. They remain busy, curious and quick to dig or chase, needing daily activity and a hand-stripped wiry coat. Their portable size and outgoing nature make them charming, adaptable companions.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The Norfolk Terrier developed in the East Anglia region of England in the late 19th century as a small ratting and fox-bolting terrier, sharing origins with the Norwich Terrier. The two were shown as a single breed distinguished only by ear carriage until the drop-eared variety was recognized separately as the Norfolk Terrier by the English Kennel Club in 1964 and the AKC in 1979.
Temperament
Norfolks are game, affectionate and remarkably even-tempered for a terrier, thriving on companionship and family life. They are alert watchdogs but generally friendly and sociable, often good with other dogs. Their working heritage gives them a strong prey drive, a fondness for digging, and a lively, self-assured spirit.
