About the Petit Bleu de Gascogne
The Petit Bleu de Gascogne is a medium-sized French scenthound from the Gascony region, a smaller counterpart to the Grand Bleu de Gascogne, developed to hunt hare, rabbit and other small game. It is named for its distinctive blue-mottled coat, created by black spots and ticking over white, along with black patches and rich tan markings and long, low-set ears. A tenacious, methodical trailer with a deep, musical voice, the Petit Bleu is hardy and tireless in the field. At home it is gentle, sociable and even-tempered, though its powerful nose and independence mean it needs secure areas, plenty of exercise and patient, consistent training.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The Petit Bleu de Gascogne descends from the ancient Bleu de Gascogne family of southwestern France, bred down in size from the Grand Bleu to pursue smaller game such as hare and rabbit. Despite its name, 'petit' refers to the game hunted more than the dog's stature. The breed is recognized by the FCI and is rare outside France.
