About the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno
The Portuguese Podengo Pequeno is the smallest of the three Podengo sizes, a low-set, sturdy little hunting dog from Portugal used traditionally to flush and hunt rabbits and to control vermin around farms and boats. Available in smooth and wire coats, it is lively, alert, and comically expressive, combining a hound's determination with a terrier-like tenacity. Intelligent and independent, the Pequeno is affectionate and playful with its family and makes an excellent watchdog thanks to its sharp senses and readiness to sound the alarm. Its small size and adaptability suit many homes, but its prey drive, agility, and curiosity mean it needs secure spaces and engaging activity.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.
