About the Redbone Coonhound
The Redbone Coonhound is a striking American scenthound with a sleek, solid-red coat, bred in the southern United States to tree raccoons and hunt larger game across rugged terrain. Athletic and versatile, it works with a superb nose, stamina, and a musical bay, tracking on land and in water and holding quarry until the hunter arrives. Even-tempered and affectionate off the trail, the Redbone is a devoted, easygoing family dog that generally gets along with children and other dogs. Its strong prey drive, endurance, and love of scent mean it needs secure fencing, plenty of exercise, and owners who appreciate a vocal, driven, and companionable hound.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.
