About the Russian Toy
The Russian Toy is a tiny, elegant companion breed from Russia, developed from English Toy Terriers and prized in Russian society as a refined lap dog. It comes in two coat varieties, smooth and long-coated, the latter featuring distinctive feathering on the ears and legs. Lively, alert, and affectionate, the Russian Toy is devoted to its owner and forms intense bonds, often shadowing its person from room to room. Despite its delicate frame it is cheerful, playful, and surprisingly bold, with a keen watchdog's alertness. Its small size suits apartment living, but it is fragile, can be reserved with strangers, and needs gentle handling and early socialization.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

It is recognized by the FCI and joined the AKC Toy Group in 2022.

Questions to ask a Russian Toy breeder

- Is this a smooth or long-coated litter and what grooming is needed?

Health considerations to discuss
Patellar luxation. Common in toy breeds; ask for evaluations of the parents.
