About the Schillerstovare
The Schillerstovare is an elegant Swedish scenthound bred to hunt hare and fox across snowy terrain, tracking and driving game while giving tongue. Athletic and racy for a hound, it has a distinctive black-and-tan coat, a lean, hard body, and remarkable speed and stamina in cold conditions. Named after the farmer who developed it, the breed is worked singly rather than in packs, following a trail with drive and a musical baying voice. At home it is calm, gentle, and affectionate, but it carries a strong hunting instinct and needs vigorous exercise. Best suited to active owners in rural settings, it is a hardy, low-maintenance companion with genuine working ability.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The Schillerstovare was developed in Sweden in the late 19th century by farmer Per Schiller, who bred fast, hardy tracking hounds from German and Swiss scenthound stock adapted to Swedish hunting. It was among the first Swedish hound breeds recognized, gaining a standard around 1907. It is recognized by the FCI and remains a popular hunting hound in its homeland.
Temperament
Schillerstovare are calm and affectionate in the home but keen, driven, and independent when hunting. They possess great endurance and a strong tracking instinct, following hare and fox with a resonant voice. Gentle with their families, they need active, patient owners who can channel their energy and respect their hunting focus.
