About the Slovensky Kopov

The Slovensky Kopov, or Slovak Hound, is a lean, hardy black-and-tan scenthound bred in the Carpathians primarily to hunt wild boar. Medium-sized and lightly built for its stamina, it has a short, dense coat and a determined, workmanlike appearance. Renowned for courage, endurance, and an excellent nose, it trails and holds boar with a loud, persistent voice, working with great independence over rugged mountain terrain. Tough and single-minded on the hunt, at home it is loyal and affectionate with its family while remaining alert and wary of strangers. Its strong drive, energy, and hunting focus make it a working dog best suited to active hunters or very outdoorsy owners who can meet its needs.

Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.
