About the Spinone Italiano
The Spinone Italiano is an ancient Italian pointing breed cherished for its patient, methodical hunting style and its exceptionally gentle, sociable nature. Solidly built with a dense, wiry coat, tufted eyebrows, and a soft, almost soulful expression, the Spinone works close to the gun, quartering ground at a deliberate trot and retrieving reliably from water and cover. It is a versatile all-round gundog suited to difficult terrain, but at home it is calm, affectionate, and famously tolerant, earning a reputation as a devoted family companion. Slow to mature and sensitive in temperament, it responds best to gentle, encouraging training rather than harsh correction.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The Spinone is one of Italy's oldest breeds, with a heritage reaching back centuries as a rugged pointing and retrieving dog across the Piedmont region. Its exact ancestry is uncertain, but it survived near-extinction during the World Wars before dedicated breeders restored it. It is recognized by the FCI, the Kennel Club, and the AKC as a versatile gundog.
Temperament
Docile, patient, and affectionate, the Spinone is one of the more laid-back gundogs, forming strong bonds and getting along well with children and other animals. It is sensitive and can be stubborn, so it needs kind, consistent, positive training. Though calmer than many pointers, it still requires regular exercise and enjoys human company almost constantly.
