About the Sporting Lucas Terrier
The Sporting Lucas Terrier is a small, sturdy English working terrier bred to hunt and dispatch vermin below and above ground while remaining a sociable pack dog. Descended from the older Lucas Terrier lines, it was developed to combine gameness and working ability with a friendly, biddable temperament that allows several to be kept and worked together. Compact and muscular with a harsh, weatherproof coat, it retains genuine hunting instinct, a keen nose, and terrier tenacity. It makes an affectionate, adaptable companion for active owners, though it still needs outlets for its energy and digging and chasing drives.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The breed grew out of the Lucas Terrier, itself created in the twentieth century by Sir Jocelyn Lucas from Sealyham and Norfolk Terrier stock. The Sporting Lucas Terrier was later developed to restore working ability and a more moderate build, and it is recognized by dedicated clubs in the UK rather than by the major kennel registries. It remains an uncommon working and companion terrier.
Temperament
Friendly, keen, and adaptable, the Sporting Lucas Terrier is more amiable and pack-tolerant than many working terriers, making it easier to keep in multiples. It is affectionate with family, alert, and eager, yet retains prey drive and terrier determination. Consistent training and adequate exercise keep it a well-mannered companion.
