About the Swedish Lapphund
The Swedish Lapphund is a hardy Nordic spitz developed by the Sami people to herd and guard reindeer across the far north of Scandinavia. Medium-sized and typically solid black, it wears a thick, weatherproof double coat and carries the alert, foxy expression and curled tail of the spitz family. Lively, intelligent, and vocal, it is a keen herder and watchdog with a strong instinct to bark and to bond closely with its family. It thrives on activity, training, and companionship, and its combination of stamina, sensitivity, and eagerness to please makes it a devoted, energetic companion for active owners who can meet its needs.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
One of Sweden's oldest native breeds, the Swedish Lapphund descends from the reindeer-herding dogs of the Sami people, with roots reaching back thousands of years in the Nordic region. It served as a herder, drover, and guard in the Arctic before being formally recognized as a breed. It is recognized by the FCI and Nordic kennel clubs, and remains relatively rare outside Scandinavia.
