About the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon
The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is a versatile, medium-sized gundog developed to hunt, point, and retrieve across both land and water. Its distinctive harsh, wiry double coat, bushy eyebrows, and shaggy mustache give it a rugged appearance, while its personality is affectionate, eager to please, and deeply people-oriented. This is a high-energy, athletic breed that thrives on having a job and needs substantial daily exercise and mental engagement to stay content and well-behaved. Highly trainable and sensitive, the Griffon responds best to positive, consistent methods and makes a devoted family companion when given the activity and closeness it craves.
Every dog is an individual — genetics, socialization, health, training, and environment matter more than breed averages.

History
The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon was developed in the late 1800s largely through the work of Dutch-born breeder Eduard Karel Korthals, who sought a rugged, close-working all-purpose gundog. Much of his breeding took place in Germany and France, and the breed is sometimes called the Korthals Griffon. It has long been valued by foot hunters for its methodical range and strong retrieving instinct on land and in water.
Temperament
Outgoing, eager, and quick-witted, the Griffon is affectionate with its family and forms close bonds with its people. It is generally good with children and other dogs and aims to please. Its sensitivity means harsh corrections are counterproductive.
